A theatre company unravels when its two lead actors, both working to save their broken marriage, are cast in a self-indulgent play that makes them recreate the director's recently-failed relationship.

 

IT PLAYS LIKE LOVE suggests that love cannot be easily defined. It can only be experienced. 

A theatre director writes his failed relationship into a play, hoping to prove love existed by recreating it. The movie has four threads... the rehearsals for the play; the director's memories, which are unreliable; a dinner party with his frustrated cast; and cast auditions (shot with real actors opening up about their love lives). The communication between these threads expresses the movie's theme: that love is an experience rather than something quantifiable. The scripted drama, honest confessions, timeless questions and confusions and humor add up to an experience greater than the sum of its parts... like love.
